Founded by artists in 1975 as an alternative, artist-run space to present new and challenging art, Nexus has exhibited over 1500 local, national, and international artists. Nexus has introduced innovative regional artists through its artist membership. Non-member curated and invitational exhibitions investigate computer and kinetic art, sound sculpture, light art, and other media. Nexus recently organized two international touring exhibitions of unique artists' bookworks for the United States Information Agency.

"Context" is an exhibition comprised of off-site and gallery installations whose meaning is informed or created by the specific context in which they are located and experienced, by 15 regional and national artists. Artists include: Sarah Biemiller-McDonald, E.G. Crichton, Lonnie Graham, Mei-Ling Hom, Laura Hutton, Elizabeth Leister, Sue Mark, Jane Marsching, Gabriel Martinez, James Mills, Nicholas Muellner, Jennie Shanker, elin o'Hara slavick, Elizabeth Stephens, John Stone, and organized by project co-directors Anne Raman and gerard brown. Catalog with text by Judith Barry. "Context" is presented as part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival which cultivates experimental performances and visual art works of extraordinary merit and presents them in a carnival atmosphere designed to foster a spirit of fun and discovery.

Exhibition Dates: September 4th through September 27th at Nexus
September 9th through September 19th off-site installations during Fringe Festival
