Grant Award: $20,000
Planning Project: Planning for Lace in Translation, an exhibition that will bring three Dutch design teams together, (Tord Boontje; Susanne Happle with Frederik Molenschot; and Jeroen Verhoeven, of the design firm Demakersvan), to consider how the luxury and durability of hand-crafted products intersect with modern mass production techniques, ultimately resulting in explorations of the Center’s Quaker lace archives, and new commissions for the gallery and its environs.

Grant Award: $20,000
Planning Project: Planning for The Sitting Room: Four Studies a project that will incorporate commissioned works in the realms of furniture design, ceramics, plastic, textiles, glass, metal and paper to create four separate but interrelated installations based on the historical concept of the sitting room. Four nationally-recognized guest curators will further define their interpretation of this component of domestic architecture, taking into account the ideological meanings associated with the history of the sitting room and the original function of the building as a residence.

Grant Award: $20,000
Planning Project: Planning for phase two Philagrafika 2010: The Graphic Unconscious will bring together the organization’s consulting artistic director with his team to refine the primary curatorial theses and sub-themes for the multi-sited exhibition. This phase of planning will solidify the team that will create a multi-sited, international exhibition of new art, and build a template for collaboration that will ensure that the partnerships support the mission and goals of curators, participating organizations, and the vitality of the region’s economy.
Tyler Exhibitions
Grant Award: $20,000
Planning Project: Planning for Invented Cities an exhibition that will examine the roles photographic images play in determining and portraying new urban imaginaries in rapidly developing cities across the globe. The project will initiate a number of programs that will engage artists, scholars and advisors in remote locations as well as ancillary programs during the exhibition’s run.
