Arcadia University
Grant Award: $25,000
Project: To support site location research in the American Southwest for a film project and other new works by Berlin-based, British artist
Tacita Dean, inspired by her regard for the dystopian vision and macrocosmic time sense of British writer J.G. Ballard. The final project is
anticipated to be co-presented by Arcadia University Art Gallery and Dia Center for the Arts, New York City, in 2011, at both sites.
The Clay Studio
Grant Award: $25,000
Project: The Clay Studio will build a curatorial team, with expertise in crafts, fine arts, and design, to define and develop a small series
of exhibitions that expand the possibilities for ceramics. They will be presented during the 2010 National Council on Education in the
Ceramic Arts Conference in Philadelphia. The planning team includes Barbara Bloemink, Jody Clowes, Jo Lauria, John Perreault,
and Judith Tannenbaum.
Rosenbach Museum & Library
Grant Award: $24,900
Project: To develop a thoughtful and creative plan for the programming of newly-created changing exhibition spaces at the museum that
will be used to present contemporary projects. The Rosenbach will bring in five different groups of expert consultants—such as Andy
Warhol Museum archivist Matt Wrbican, artist and director of Printed Matter AA Bronson, and Peter Nesbitt and Shelly Bancroft from
Triple Candie—to assist the curatorial and education staff in the development of this plan.
Screening (Nadia Hironaka and Matt Suib)
Grant Award: $5,000
Project: First-time PEI grant recipients independent curators Nadia Hironaka and Matthew Suib will develop plans to commission and
exhibit a new project by renowned experimental filmmaker Pat O’Neill, who lives in Los Angeles. They will also plan for a simultaneous
presentation of early films by O’Neill and other experimental filmmakers at International House, Philadelphia.
