Project: Peter Saul: A Retrospective PEI funds will allow this exhibition, organized by curator Dan Cameron for the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach, to travel to Philadelphia, its only East Coast venue. Saul is a provocative and influential figure, whose practice fearlessly engages controversial social issues, rendering them in a style that recalls pop art, cartoons, and surrealism, but is uniquely his own. This show, the most comprehensive exhibition presented of Saul’s work, will feature over 60 paintings and drawings spanning the artist’s entire career (1960–present). PAFA will present the most extensive public programming of any stop on the tour in an effort to maximize the show’s impact, and their unique presentation will also include his new parody of Thomas Eakins’s The Gross Clinic.
