Project: Hidden City, is a two-month exhibition that will explore Philadelphia’s “hidden” cityscape by reanimating obscure, endangered and under-represented heritage sites through contemporary multi-media and time-based installations. This project joins the work of artists, Sanford Biggers, Jeremy Deller, Sam Durant, Aleksandra Mir, and Steve Roden, with innovative approaches to historical interpretation in a balanced creative dialogue in order to enlighten and inspire audiences, and build awareness and support of contemporary artistic practice, and historic preservation, as well as emphasizing the importance of art and heritage within our community. Collaborating artistic curators, Kathleen Forde, Christian Marclay, and Stephen Vitiello, and historic curators, Bill Adair, Bruce Laverty, and Bryant Simon, will work with artists using the city’s rich history in order to incorporate a range of installation practices.
Project Dates: May 2008-July 2008
