Project: Tom Chimes, will be the first major exhibition to represent a comprehensive examination of the work by this distinguished Philadelphia artist. While drawing deserved scholarly and public attention to this under-recognized artist, the exhibition will also create a provocative, multi-media installation that connects Chimes’ images with the written word, which has served as inspiration throughout his career. Tracing the stylistic evolution of Chimes’ art, this exhibition will reveal his remarkable ability to periodically reinvent himself, while also underscoring the conceptual nature of his artistic practice-the exhibition itself will be divided into the four distinct formal periods that characterize Chimes’ oeuvre to date. An accompanying publication, related installations, and a wide range of on-site and collaborative programs will complement this presentation. Project Dates: February 2007-May 2007
